THRUST LAB is a Baltimore-based instrumental electronic rock duo formed by Benjamin J.A. Domanico and Samuel N. Ortiz-Payero in the fall of 2004. Their music has been compared by Pitchfork Media to the likes of Vangelis, Giorgio Morodor, Weather Report and M83. Live drums and bass carry most of the songs’ force, yet Thrust Lab's epic prog-rock inspired electronic sounds landing gently between Johann Johannssen's delicate laptop pop and Sonic The Hedgehog's rich and dynamic theme music...

Jan. 18 @ Spazz Haus - Greenville, NC

We set up a crazy little wall of gear/sound/speakers/awesomeness very similar to what Justice does during their liveset, only with live instruments + fake Peavy speakers + and in a tiny living room. DJ and I set up on either side of a tall broken 4-way speaker that Mark used as a podium, behind which he used another one of the blown out Peavey speakers as something to stand on so that he could get high up above the "crowd".

My drums + drumpad + keyboard + computer + keyboard amp + Ben's Bass amp were in such close proximity to me that I was surprised to have the ability to move! We had a really awesome crowd response, played well and tight, and everything was rad.

Dustin (Double Deputy) opened up with some crowd favorites like Joy Division and Kate Bush. I was being a crazy hype-man of sorts, as the vibe was appropriate for such a thing.  After DD, Teenage Souls skittered back and forth across his drums, every now and then landing a monster snare + cymbal crash combo dead-on beat.

Ear Pwr brought the house down (not literally, although, seeing the fate of Turducken House, that would be a possibility). Great set, amazing energy, and it sounded amazing. I had to protect our gear from sweaty, dancing bodies most of the night, but I had a really good time, and it seemed like everyone else did as well.

Our friend Justin from Lonnie Walker hooked us up with a place to stay near the ECU campus, and it was a little paradise. The apartment was pristine, clean, spacious, and beautiful, with giant plants in the living room, an amazing shower, and a comfy comfy couch to sleep on. Little Paradise! The next day we had Boss Hog's Backyard BBQ for breakfast, and it was heavy, amazing, and delicious. That meal stayed with me for the rest of the day.
